Board certification in hand surgery is also required. Hand surgeons must stay up-to-date on the latest treatments and technologies in their field in order to provide the best care to their patients.

The majority of these surgeons practice in the Southeast, with 1,020 surgeons practicing in the region. The Northeast is the second-largest region for hand surgeons, with 880 practitioners. In the Midwest, there are 540 hand surgeons, and in the West, there are 360.
The average age of hand surgeons in the US is 51.3 years, with the majority of surgeons being between the ages of 40 and 59 (57%). The majority of hand surgeons are male (87%), while only 13% are female.
The majority of hand surgeons have been practicing for over 20 years (58%), while 37% have been practicing for 11-20 years, and 5% of surgeons have been practicing for 10 or fewer years. The median income for hand surgeons is reported to be $398,000 per year.
