Qualifications: Ophthalmologists must complete a four-year college degree and four years of medical school. They must then complete a one-year internship and three years of residency in ophthalmology. After residency, they must pass a written and oral examination in order to become licensed. They must also be certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
