What is Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine? 

Undersea and hyperbaric medicine is a specialized branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions that occur in diving, hyperbaric environments, and other high-pressure situations. This field is also known as diving medicine or hyperbaric medicine. The discipline involves the use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to treat a wide range of medical conditions, including decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, and non-healing wounds. 

History of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine 

The roots of undersea and hyperbaric medicine can be traced back to the 1600s when the first diving bell was invented. However, the modern practice of hyperbaric medicine began in the early 1900s when French physiologist Paul Bert discovered the effects of increased pressure on the body. In the 1930s, the first hyperbaric chambers were developed to treat decompression sickness in divers. Since then, hyperbaric medicine has become an established field of medicine with numerous applications in a variety of medical specialties.
