The largest employers of wound care specialists are hospitals and physician offices. Other employers include nursing care facilities, home health care services, and outpatient care centers.
The majority of wound care specialists work full time. About two-thirds of them work in hospitals and one-third in physician offices.
The number of wound care specialists in the United States is estimated to be around 30,000. The profession is expected to grow at a rate of 16 percent between 2018 and 2028, faster than the average for all occupations.
